Andrew Mangal

Andrew Mangal

grew up in Scarborough, Ontario where he began his musical career on the piano at age 7.  Throughout his middle and high school career, he took an active interest in woodwind instruments (particularly the clarinet and saxophone) and choral music.  He completed his Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Education at McGill University where he had the opportunity to work with Iwan Edwards and Alain Cazes.  It was here where he became the musical director of the student-run a cappella group, Effusion.  He had the pleasure of leading the group to many successes including going to Festival 500 in Newfoundland and performing at the ICCA Semi-Finals at the Town Hall Theatre in New York city.

Andrew is currently teaching high school instrumental music at Rosemount High school in the east end of Montreal.  He is also the musical director of the Montreal-based vocal ensemble Ardesco that recently won the first place prize in the national rounds of the Mondial Choral and second place in the international rounds.  He is also working on furthering his conducting skills by participating in the Canadian Wind Conductor’s Development Program that is held annually in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
