Live auditions are held annually and throughout the season as necessary to determine if interested members are at the appropriate level of playing. Video auditions are also accepted. Please see "auditions" page for further information.
Acceptance and placement within the ensemble is by audition, not by grade, age or years of experience.
Although the audition requirements include two contrasting pieces/excerpts of the musician's choosing, the level of said pieces should reflect the musician's highest level of playing at this time.
Sight-reading will be included in the audition.
Audition time is limited--no longer than 5 minutes. Therefore, not all material may be performed.
Although placements within the ensemble are decided by the adjudicators at the time of auditions, the conductor may make changes once the season begins and throughout, as deemed necessary.
The conductor may hold additional auditions throughout the year to fill vacant positions.
The audition process provides a way for us to determine each musician's level of playing to ensure that all ensemble members can keep up with the intensity of playing. They also help our conductor in programming the season's repertoire. While auditions may be stressful, they are good experiences in a musician's preparation for musical performance. We will do our best to make you comfortable. Just take a deep breath, relax, and have fun!
